Zesty zesterI needed a zester for some recipes and went with this particular Microplane based upon the reviews, and because it had a nice handle on it (scared of skinned hands). The grater is super-sharp and works with precision; the peel practically flakes off with little pressure. It gives very fine zest. I have small hands but the handle is very comfortable and the zester overall feels sturdy. The inward curves on the sides may seem odd and seem made to trap goo, but I've found that the blade is easy to clean inside and out. I haven't tried this on cheese yet but I don't anticipate a problem. The zester comes with a thick plastic blade shield so it can go into a utinsel drawer with no worries of damage or accidental scrapeage. Great product!

cheap knife, not even worth the $5I was very excited about the Victorinox knives after reading all the rave reviews, but must say I am quite disappointed. This little paring knife is basically useless. Both the handle and the blade are completely cheap and flimsy. Also, the size is just useless - my fault, should have researched it more, but figured it was a traditional pairing knife size. I'd recommend going to Target and picking up some of the J.A. Henckels knives (the 2pc Fine Edge Santoku set is only $20 and totally worth it) - which I did after unfortunately wasting money on these knives first...

Riced Potatoes?! Why yes!Thanks to the Food Network channel, I now know about ricing potatoes! After watching the television cooks do it, I decided to try it out for myself and choose this Oxo Good Grips Ricer. I'm very pleased with my purchase. The size is perfect. Many people have commented that it is too small, but I can get through 5 pounds of potatoes in no time at all. In fact, after the comments about it's size, I was expecting it to be smaller than it actually was. The handle is comfortable. I don't usually sit it directly on the bowl or pot when ricing, but you could easily do that if you had trouble gripping the handle and just push down on the lever instead of gripping. My 10 year old son likes to cook with me and he has to use that method (he can't grip it). I included a photo so you could see it's size in relation to my hands. The potatoes come out perfect - no lumps (although I hear some people actually LIKE lumps?). Anyway, this is a terrific ricer - clean up is easy too. A simple rinse gets most of the potato residue off and then I put it in the dishwasher!

What about us left-handers?!I really do like this peeler. It does an above average job on all the things I have tried it on. My two "gripes" about it would be that sometimes the peel sticks to it and you have to clear the cutting blade to keep going. I think that tends to happen with most peelers that I have used though. My major problem with this peeler is that the little scooping edge is only made for right-handers. You have to turn it around and really work hard to make it do what it is supposed to if you are left-handed. Why not put one on both sides?? This peeler was built for a right-handed world. Poor lefties...forgotten again!
