It works... For a week or so.I can only speak of this product's effectiveness, or lack thereof, on squirrels however a squirrel is a rodent so I would imagine the results would be the same for mice/rats.
With an inordinate amount of hawks in the neighborhood this past year it was inevitable that I was going to have squirrels taking up residency in my garage attic. Not the biggest deal and it happens every so many winters. It became a big deal when the rat with the fluffy tail chewed through the ceiling drywall and starting scavenging for food in my garage. I have a plastic storage been that I keep dog treats in (you can see where this is going). In the morning I entered the garage to discover that the plastic bin had a 5"x5" hole gnawed out of it with plastic shards everywhere. The last thing I needed was for somebody to enter the garage and be mauled by a rabid squirrel (or at least scared out of their mind). I ordered 2 of these because they had a fair amount of favorable reviews. While waiting for the devices to arrive, I covered the hole in the drywall with 1/4" plywood secured with deck screws. The screws held fine however the wood only lasted a day. The cute, cuddly critter chewed through the wood not to be denied access to romp around my garage.
When the devices arrived I placed one in the garage, aiming it toward the new "wooden hole". After a day or so there were no signs that the squirrel was returning to the garage. Now I only heard them running around in the attic. Armed with an old tennis racquet, an extension cord and the 2nd device, I ascended into the attic to strategically place the device. I moved several boxes to have a more open path for the device to shrill. That's when I came face to face with attic monsters (at least two). We had a quick stare down and they scurried away, presumably along the top of the soffit. I set up the device, plugged it in and left them to be driven mad by the device. About a week went by with no incidents in the attic or the garage although I could here them in the soffit from time to time. After about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks, they have adapted to the devices and are now back and frolicking in the garage as well as the attic. The device in the garage is on but I have not checked the one in the attic. At first I thought maybe they chewed the wires but with the garage one on and being completely ignored I figured I'd check the attic one when I put a cage trap up there.
All the research I've done seems to come down to trapping the wretched beasts alive and removing them that way. Not what I was hoping to do but if it takes several "road trips" to get rid of these uninvited guests then so be it.
I cannot recommend this product for squirrel issues.

| Features• Includes Test Results & Prepaid Return Shipping to Lab. Please Note: This is Not the Correct Radon Test Kit for New Jersey Residents. • Rated #1 by a leading National Consumer Advocacy Group. The U.S. EPA has verified this product for accurate radon measurement. • Easy Testing: Simply remove testing device from sealed pouch and expose to the air for 3 months to 1 year. • When test is completed, return to Lab in pre-addressed postage paid envelope along with enclosed data sheet. • Accustar Labs is the only Radon Testing Lab in the U.S. to use electrochemical etching to process its alpha track foils which are subsequently counted with computer-aided image analysis equipment.
Carefully vettedI've been studying this technology, and there appear to be too many choices in how to test for radon in homes. But Consumer Reports did a thorough job of evaluating the products on the market, in their September 2008 issue. (Their conclusions can be found online.) They highly rated two products. This one was their preferred choice, as a 90-day test, such as this one, is more accurate than a quick test. This particular product got their best rating. The other product is called RTCA 4-Pass Charcoal Cannister, which is a 2-7 day test. Oddly, Amazon does not carry that item. CR says that one sells for about $20. (Please note that I have not actually used this product yet. I'm merely sharing the results of credible research. It took me awhile to sort through the verbiage on this issue. I've simply shared the findings.) ~eric. Read more...

| Features• Cut high limbs safely and easily from the ground. • Cut limbs 25-feet, or add more rope for higher cuts. • Pays for itself in the first few uses. • Trim your neighbor's overhanging branches • Provide sunny areas to shaded gardens
This product does precisely what it claims to do.....I have several of these, in both the 24 inch and 48 inch versions, as I have many limbs to cut of varying sizes and widths. I have read reviews on here with various complaints about the throw bag, the binding of the saw, the limitations of size branch for cutting.....and many more complaints. If one wants to complain about these things, they are probably better off spending several thousand dollars for a tree service. However, if one has the time and the inclination to put in some blood, sweat, and tears, then this is the device for you.
Using this device properly is more of an art than a science admittedly, though it definitely is a combination of both and needs much practice to get right......and even then, it will never be perfect. This cannot be emphasized enough. Two people usually work better than one because of the angles. This device will not last forever!......you will probably need new rope once the original rope wears out if you do a lot of cutting. Oil the chain, especially after getting wet. And getting the chain oriented properly with the righting weight takes practice.....and angle is important once you do start to cut. Some cuts go very fast; others will bind and get caught and take an hour or more, even with similar branches and angles. Even if there was a class on how to use this, I believe these issues would remain as there are so many factors which go into a good cut. Dead trees usually cut through quickly, though I have gotten caught on these too. If the angle is even slightly off, it will bind. (and on large diameter branches, do not even think of using the small 24 inch version of this) The weakest part of this device is the clip for the throw bag.....that will break after a few uses. But this is easily replaced.
And when cutting, it goes without saying to be away from the branch being cut. This is one of the best characteristics of this device......it is probably the only method of cutting trees which can keep you safe and far away from falling branches. (This alone is worth 5 stars!)
All of this being said, anyone with a lot of trees would be well served to have at least one of these on hand.....unless they like writing checks to tree service companies. Read more...

| Features• Two-wheeled collapsible handcart with lid and retractable handle • For hauling up to 80-pounds of small items • Folds down to only 3-inches thick for compact storage; weighs less than 8-pounds • Lid supports up to 250-pounds and may be used as seat or stepstool • Made from aluminum and heavy-duty plastic
Lacking in the Longevity DepartmentI got this cart about 1.5-2 years ago. The wheel has always rubbed a bit, but I just put up with it rather than do the return hassle. It's supposed to support up to 250 lbs., but I have my doubts. I use it primarily for trips to the library. I homeschool our kids and we check out loads of books a couple times a month. Yesterday the "hub cap" on one of the wheels broke and it cannot be fixed. The wheel no longer turns as a result. It has not been abused, dropped, slammed down or otherwise mistreated. We load books into it, and roll it up ramps to and from the parking lot to the building. I am disappointed that this cart didn't hold up longer than it did. I didn't want to be buying a new one so soon. If a cart is going to toot it's horn about handling 250 lbs., maybe the wheels should also be be able to handle that load as well (however, I didn't have 250 lbs. of books!) Read more...

| Features• Fast, accurate, easy to use; compare results with EPA recommendations • Detects 10 contaminants including copper, iron, and lead • Detects dangerous levels of nitrates/nitrites • Test for potentially harmful bacteria and the presence of toxins from pesticides or fertilizers • Identify unsafe levels of chlorine in your water
Easy to use, seems to be accurateWe have well water which we had tested by a local lab a year or two ago. I like to have the water tested regularly, mainly for bacteria, but the local lab charges $100 (if we want lead testing included, it's $200). I ordered this test kit thinking that I'd compare it to the results we got from the lab when we last had our water tested. If anything looked weird or came back abnormal, we'd pay the local lab to test the water.
The tests that I've done so far have given results that are in line with what we were expecting. The local lab gives some directions that I followed when pulling my water samples. They include the following:
1) Use cold water only.
2) For the bacteria test: let your water run for 5 minutes before you take a sample. Don't take a sample from a swivel faucet (commonly found in kitchens). They told me that it's best to take the water sample from the bathroom faucet or tub.
3) For the lead test: Take your sample at a point where the water has been sitting in the pipes for at least 6 hours. They recommended first thing in the morning, before flushing the toilets, etc.
The instructions included with the test kit were fine, but I would have appreciated something a bit more in depth, like those provided by our local lab. Still, this test is a fraction of what the local lab charges, and at least from what I can see, it appears to be fairly accurate. Read more...
