Negative point for parasitic battery drain. The energy drain from the green LED which flashes 24/7 is not insignificant. I have a River Rock LED lantern which uses three AA cells, and also has the flashing green LED 24/7. After a couple months, there is very little energy left in the cells when I go to use the lantern. The duration will be longer in a three-D cell lantern, of course, as D-cells hold 3-4 times the energy as AA cells. But the point is, most people probably store an emergency lantern with the cells in it, ready for use. And when you go to use those cells you paid good money for, you don't expect them to be drained for no good reason. One poster mentioned that he deemed the parasitic drain was insignificant because he stored his lantern a year, and when he turned it on, it lit up. Big deal. You can spend $30 to fill up your car with gas, then store it a month with a small leak in the gas tank which drips every few seconds. A month later you go to start your car and, guess what, it starts and revs great. But that doesn't change the fact that there's only a gallon of gas left in the tank thanks to the LED, er ... leak. The flashing green LED is a pointless design with no redeeming value. Read more...
