| Great Photos!I agree with the previous reviewer that National Wildlife is often pessimistic. Sadly, I "get it for the pictures," so-to-speak. The photos are truly beautiful, and they have a yearly contest and issue with photo winners.
In most of the articles, however, it seems the writers are trying to convince everyone that humans are ruining the planet. Probably all readers of National Wildlife already know this, but are interested in learning more about national wildlife . . . which is the name of the magazine, after all. You can't just jump in and tell everyone they're endangering animals and then hope they'll care about it--people need to have vested interest in something to really care about it. They should tell the readers how to do direct things such as birdwatch, start a pond, or plant a wildflower garden. They should educate readers on the habits and lives of various animals, and then let the readers know that the animals are in potential danger. If they make nature FUN for readers, then we'll realize what a loss it would be in our own lives to suddenly be without it. As the saying goes, "you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar." National Wildlife needs to use a lot more honey and a lot less vinegar.
National Wildlife as an organization does try to encourage people to get involved with positive steps, such as through their national campout, Certified Wildlife Habitats and accompanying book (Attracting Birds, Butterflies, and Other Backyard Widlife), etc. It would be nice to see this positive mentality carried over to the magazine itself. | Great content, poor edittingI have been subscribed to AW&ST for almost two full years, and have to say the magazine is great. The content is both varied and informative, and the whole world is covered fairly well. I am currently trying to figure out how I am going to scrounge up the money to renew my subscription for another year.
The only real complaint that I have had with the magazine is the poor editing. I don't expect a perfect magazine, but the frequency of simple spelling mistakes and occasional grammatical errors is astounding. Read more...

| Fun little newsletterI figured for $8 it was worth a try. I am very pleasantly surprised. It is a black and white newsletter not a magazine but in its few pages, it is infinitely more interresting than something flashy like discover magazine. Reminds me of "Science News" magazine only with more alternative topics. Some real science stuff, some stuff that mainstream ignores. If you like Coast2Coast stuff and the unexplainable, this is for you. I must have curiously said "hmph" to my self about a half dozen times while reading my first issue. Check out the website science-[...] for an idea of what this is all about. Do it. order now. Read more...
