No news!

I made a gift subscription for this magazine, National Geographic in December 2009. And am still wondering if the first copy has been delivered to the address.
I can give a proper review only when i get a confirmation that the magazine has already been posted to the address!!!!

I look forward to this magazine.

Having subscribed to Popular Science Magazine for the past three years, I have to say there is always something interesting and enlightening in every issue. The appeal of the magazine is more geared toward those interested in science fiction, tinkering, conceptual thinkers, and/or early adopters of new technologies. I can see where the appeal can lack for others as you can see from other reviews, but if you match any of the above groups that may be of interest, head to a local supermarket and thumb through a copy.

If you like what you see, ten dollars is more than fair for the interesting and thought-provoking stories you'll find every month.

Get wired!

I've always been a fan of Wired, and when Amazon told me that I could get it for free (I believe it was when I purchased my Flip Video), I jumped on it! Wired is an excellent magazine that anyone can enjoy, I just wish I could enjoy it on my Nook!

At such a low price, it's ridiculous not to get it! Any techie, or even non-techies will enjoy this magazine!

Discover Discover

A great magazine. Gives a good insight of current scientific developments. It is geared for the average reader so professionals might find it a bit light. If you're like me and want to know what's going on in the world of science it's great read.

Changed for the worse

I used to love Scientific American in the 70s and 80s and saved all the issues. But I started noticing a fundamental dilemma: each issue had an article that was superficially science but mainly political, and always of a left-wing nature. If they labeled these articles as editorials, there would be no problem, but they always tried to pass them off as scientific truth. I dropped out. Then I started a subscription recently in order to not lose my airline miles. The January 2010 issue was a big disappointment. About half the articles had political messages, much worse than in the 80s. How sad to see a great magazine taken over by political ideologues.

Not impressed

I picked up this magazine in the checkout line based on the article titles. I was really disappointed. The articles were not particularly insightful & some of them were just fluff. It was just an average blah magazine. I won't buy it again.

Best Birding Magazine Ever!

I am so glad I found this magazine at Amazon. Purchased two subscritions for a friend and myself and we both love love love it!
Great pictures, facts and stories that will delight bird fans all over. By far the best birding magazine I have ever found. Wonderful photography of birds I ahve never seen and some that I have. Wish they sold actual photos from this magazine. Easy to understand and will intregue even those who have never thought they could be interested in these lovely creatures. Great for those with huge knowledge of birds as this is not boring. Certainly one I will be renewing year after year.

Risque Covers, Relevant Contents

Yes, the magazine has "risque" covers, but that's to get people to pick it up. And then, hopefully, someone who wouldn't have otherwise read a factual, informational, psychological magazine will read it. I feel the stories are designed to be interesting to a wide range of people, and they keep the diction simple enough so that even if you're not a psych student you can make sense of it. I also think the stories bring relevance to psychology - it's not all about people with disorders and treatments, etc - it relates to day-to-day thought processes and behavior. Besides, if you're a psychology student, you shouldn't be expecting this magazine to substitute a textbook or published study. I'm a psychology student, and I find the articles refreshing - they're informative, relevant to society, thought-provoking, and teach without shoving theory after theory down your throat.
