Hardware UpgradeI've been a Sirius subscriber for about eight years. Got it initially for the NFL feed, but got hooked on the music and news stations. I only use it at home in a boombox system. Recently, my original unit (Orbiter version) died. Came to find that it had been discontinued. So time to upgrade...
So far, so good for the Sportster 5 - I got this version because I could add the Best of XM package (O & A in the AM). I like the improved displays and the ability to change colors. Allows for a Sports Ticker within the display so scores can scroll (you control the teams). Remote is much less bulky than what I had (about 1" x 3") and, finally, allows you to control volume. This version also gives ability to save and rewind/replay about 60 minutes worth of programming.
Based on other reviews I've read, I'm concerned about the life expectancy of the receiver. People report issues after a year, so I'll reserve judgement. I've no intention of installing in my car, so not qualified to offer an opinion on that portion. Instructions to install are straight forward though.

Warning to purchasersI just purchased this product and was pleasantly surprised by its features, small size, and sound quality. It activated quickly and worked very well with good reception hand-held outside as well as indoors with the accessory antenna (included) in a window. Unfortunately, it is now fairly useless because I made the mistake of upgrading the firmware from v1.29x to v1.31x. This upgrade inactivates the control wheel of the device which means you can't use it -- you can't selected items like channels, categories, set-up option, etc. The warrantee says the product should not be returned to the retailer from whom you purchased it (Amazon) -- but should contact XM radio. XM radio technical support said they can't help, I should contact Audiovox. Audiovox said to leave an email on their website. I'm waiting for a response. Searching the web, others have had this same problem. I'll wait and see if any fix comes along soon, otherwise I'll return to Amazon. Glad I bought it here. I'll update this when and if I get more info.
Update: Spoke with XM again today. Even though the packaging that came with the unit has an insert that says in capital letters: If you experience problems DO NOT RETURN THIS PRODUCT TO YOUR RETAILER but instead call XM Radio. The XM technician says they now have a solution -- "Please return your unit to Amazon, buy another unit, and don't upgrade the firmware." Clearly that will work, but I think I'll wait until I hear back from Audiovox.

First LookInstalled this to replace an XpressRC kit. The mounting holes matched up, as did the antenna plug, so swapping out was simple stuff... Everything included you could want, stick on mount, screw on, and a/c vent mount. Even has a remote so the kids in the back seat can control the radio and drive you crazy. The units best feature is the power connect. It transmits the FM signal through the vehicle power system, which ultimately ends up transmitting INSIDE you in dash FM receiver, and provides great signal strength. Much better than the previous clip on the antenna kit. Works well, and is simple to install with a great quick install guide.
