Unfortunately I Returned This UnitI bought the 765T with great hopes, despite user comments about the touch screen. After using it on a trip to Florida, I returned it. The touch screen is horrible, the traffic NEVER was accurate, the unit crashed at least ten times, and it was just a nuisance. This is unfortunate as the screen is clear and colorful and I liked the directions and screen layout. Garmin is the only manufacturer I have seen who provides the ability to plot routes (via MapSource) on your PC and then transfer the route, not just the start and end points, to the unit. If you use MapSource, just make sure you review your route a few times though. If you click a millionth of an inch off a highway, it thinks you want to exit the highway and go to that point. So the directions, left unchecked, would have you exit the highway, go to the point you clicked, then get back on the highway to head for your end destination. Annoying but I guess this makes sense since afterall, you did click a point off the highway. A user interface modification would be helpful to alert the user though (maybe Garmin reads this??)
Bluetooth worked well, although I disabled it as using my bluetooth earpiece was far better than using the Nuvi.
I have always used Garmin products and was really disappointed with this one. This unit was just too cumbersome and I found myself making excuses for keeping it. Read more...

Get the extended warranty!! Bought and returned two lemon units...I bought one of these units after my previous Nuvi developed a problem whereby the power kept shutting off. Alas, the warranty period had expired. The next time around, I bought the extended warranty offered by the store.
I'm glad I did, because the audio voice immediately began stuttering. "Doctor Martin Luther King Drive" became "da-ma-er-ing...... (long pause) Drive". So I returned it to the store and got another unit in the same model, and then left on an extended vacation. The voice again stuttered, even when we disconnected the power cable. So, back to the store I went to return it.
It's possible that these two units were shipped to the store at the same time and suffered some secret catastrophe together, so that I got two successive lemons. The store clerk agreed that they must have been dropped. The manual in the second box was for the "205W", which also raised my suspicions about what it had gone through prior to my purchase!
As far as the use of the unit itself, I find the "traffic" and MPH features to be quite cool, although the unit thinks five cars in a line is "traffic ahead". In choosing a route, it does not always perform flawlessly, so it's still a good idea to have a map and at least *some* idea of where you are going, and upgrade your maps at least annually.
In comparison to my first model, as others have noted, the streets that are not on your immediate route are not always named, which I find annoying because I'm used to having more detail and knowing which street is next.
This model seemed to take an exceptionally long time to find satellites, compared to my inaugural unit. It's not a bad unit for the price, but... get the extended warranty if you can!! Read more...

Nice Unit, Easy to Use, Quality a bit suspectPurchased this unit for my wife, she had a GPS that was several years old and figured this would be a nice upgrade.
Item is great, the lane assist is a very helpful, probably my wifes favorite feature. The route it selects is very logical (the older unit would suggest odd routes).
The only downside, Item was purchased as a christmas gift, here we are 2 months later and the unit stopped working. The display no longer funtions. When I called Garmin, I was told the wait time on the phone was 60 to 90 minutes. I went to get an RMA on the net, that will take 2 to 3 days, then I need to ship it back at my expense so they can repair or replace. (I've read that they usually send back a refurished one)
So the unit is nice, the quality not that best and the customer service and Garmin not all that great. Read more...

Not much better than my free cellphone GPS serviceI was very disappointed to find that this GPS is not much better than the free GPS service included with my Sprint Samsung Instinct cellphone. There's a few features that my free GPS has, which I had assumed that the TomTom would have as well given that it specializes in navigation. Here's a list of missing or lacking features:
Directions:
Rather than letting you know ahead of time whether your destination is on your left or your right, the phone simply states "after xyz miles, you have reached your destination". You have to look at the arrow on the screen to see which side of the street it's on. The sprint phone tells you which side of the street your destination is on. This is annoying esp. when you're in heavy traffic and trying to pay attention to the road instead of a little arrow on the GPS screen.
The TomTom does not show you a summary of the directions it will take you in. Therefore, you cannot specifically avoid certain streets if you know that there's a problem. The sprint phone lets you avoid any street, not just paid toll roads.
The TomTom GPS can be off by one or two houses. This is a problem when the destination you're going to does not have house numbers or they're not easily visible.
Points of interest
Limited to those that you either enter yourself or hopefully someone else typed it up, shared it and were able to find it and download it. A lot of mainstream businesses were not pre-loaded such as dunkin' donuts, etc. Creating and maintaining a list is not available through the TomTom software. You must find a third-party tool to do this.
Voice
The computer voice pronounciation, although understandble, is not as clear as the one in the sprint phone.
That said, the TomTom has a few features that outperform the free sprint service:
IQ Routes, excellent GPS satellite signal strength (the sprint one is always failing), and faster processing of routes when you make a wrong turn (sprint can take up to 2min which is a problem when you're lost).
Note to TomTom developers:
You can improve this product by partering with cellphone companies which may threaten your business if they keep offering free GPS navigation in their cellphones. If this device could connect to my cellphone through bluetooth and be able to access a data connection, the TomTom GPS would be an exceptional product. There's also no excuse for having a computer voice that is not as good as the free sprint one or not having the same features as the free spint service. Read more...

DisappointedI bought this for my daughter. I have a Magellan and I found this GPS difficult to use. Worse is the fact that it lost satellite several times so I was stuck. I don't think it's user friendly. When I gave it to my daughter who is far more tech savvy, she said the same thing. Don't buy this model! Read more...
