Highly Recommend!I wasn't sure what to expect from "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett. I had heard about it in passing prior to reading it. I had heard people talking about the fact that a white woman had written a book mainly from the perspective of the black women who worked in the upper-middle class homes of white women in Jackson, MS. As a white woman (raised in Minnesota), I was nervous to confront my own feelings of discomfort with the issues raised in the book.
All this said, after about chapter two, I was completely absorbed and transplanted to the 60s in Jackson, MS. I really loved how Stockett placed herself into the character of Skeeter, the young recent college graduate who naively stumbled into this project of telling the stories of the domestic workers who surrounded her life, but who had previously been so one-dimensional to her.
This book has stayed with me in the weeks following reading it. I am really glad that I read it and highly recommend it to you.

I will never see a dragon tattoo the same way again.
Stieg Larsson's Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is a delight to read. With a nod to the translator, Reg Keeland, the pages flow together seamlessly and create an absorbing and fresh style that demands your attention. The characters are remarkable, the plot is suspenseful, and after it's over, you find yourself incapable to stop yourself from reading the first few pages of the sequel that is included with the book.
Larsson's writing is humble, a refreshing break from other best selling authors. The style is straightforward, but Larsson's control of description transports you to a distant world, which doesn't seem that far from reality. The treatment of corporate corruption, sexual assault, and prejudice all combine together, creating a sense of morality that encompasses every aspect of modern day culture without sounding preachy.
For me, this story is an encouraging sign for readers: fiction can be entertaining and brilliant. This one should stay on the charts for years to come.

| Hornet's Nest and TrilogyHave been reading since age 4 (am now 68) and mostly fiction for the past 50 years. A novel a week. This trilogy is, in my opinion, the finest series I have ever read and Hornet's Nest may be the very best piece of fiction I have ever read. I found myself purposely slowing down in my reading because I simply did not want it to end. These are not stand alone books. Read them as 1-2-3 and you will never forget the experience. The biggest problem is what to read when you are finished. Everything else pales by comparison by virtually every measure. I envy those of you who have not started the journey or who are looking forward to the second and third novels. I almost look forward to the possibility of Alzheimers so I can read these over and over for the rest of my life. I may do so anyway.

Would have been a slam dunk, but... This book was heading toward 5 star status for me. I thought the author showed so much emotion with the characters and the issue of Asperger's. There was, of course, drama, but then there was also some humor as well.
One minor complaint was the almost constant changing between character's points of views. I like this usually, but in this book, the point of view changed so quickly, I sometimes had to look back to remind myself who was speaking.
I liked the storyline and was anxious to see what happened. What happened was...nothing. The book, to me, ended about two chapters too soon. I don't mind a bit of a cliff hanger or a few unanswered questions at the end of a book, but to me, this book had so many unanswered questions and seemed to wrap up so abruptly, I was left feeling unsatisfied. As much as I liked the first 500 pages of the book, I don't think I could really recommend it knowing what I now do about the ending.
