The monitor FAILED in 2 weeks!!!This thing is a piece of trash! I would give it a zero if I could. Within 2 weeks of setting it up, the monitor displayed a bright circle which obscured any view of the baby. All attempts to remedy the image problem were unsuccessful. Turning the brightness down had no effect. The most annoying thing was that this was a Christmas present and it was not set up by our son until late January - after the baby was born. That meant that the return period of 30 days had expired and we could not return the item for a refund. Buy with caution or better still, buy a different monitor.
YOU MUST OWN THIS WITH A NEWBORNIf you've spent the night listening to the crackle and pop of an analog baby monitor then this camera is your savior. After two weeks torture I bought this camera and although its pricey its worth double what you pay for it. Crystal clear video and audio with two wireless routes, cell phones, cordless phones and all the other goodies that annoyed my old setup. The first night we swapped to this camera was dead silent. Do yourself a favor and buy this camera. I know we will be using this for several years and the quality of both the camera and hand held are outstanding.
Volume - Major IssueI returned this after one night of use. The video screen will only go on when it detects some type of audio. The factory settings for the type of audio it has to detect for it to turn on the video can not be adjusted. It says its preset to pick up casual conversation but it wasnt sensitive enough to here our kid when he sat up and was talking... We tested it out ourselve and discovered it just wastn sensitive enough. I called and there is no way to change the preset or to just have audio on all the time. Returned it, trying the Summer Slim that looks like a cell phone, that one can have the audio on all the time if you would like.
Broke twice in six monthsWe have had this monitor for approximately 6 months. It has now broken twice. The first time, the power cord wouldn't work, so we contacted the company for a replacement. It took TWO WEEKS for them to send a replacement part. I had to go to Radio Shack to buy a universal power cord and adapter--do they really think two weeks is a reasonable amount of time to have a BABY monitor out of commission? Now, it is just completely dead. It is not worth the amount of money they are charging, if it doesn't work in the middle of night when you are worried about your baby. Company is now saying it will take THREE WEEKS to repair. And I have to pay to ship it back to them. And be without a monitor for those three weeks. This is a product that is necessary and needs to be reliable. This product is not reliable and their customer service is lousy.
also doesn't interfere with wireless internetOne thing I wanted to add to the reviews already here- not only is there no interference with this monitor, it doesn't interfere with other things. I read a review that another monitor would cause the wireless internet to not work, but that is not a problem with this. When using this we have no trouble with wireless connections.
I also wanted to let you know that I have not had any trouble with the volume. Before I used it I made to sync up the devices per the directions, and the vox worked fine last night.
Use several layers of duct tape or something to cover up the "on" light on the camera end. I didn't last night and I think it kept my son up, when he woke up at around midnight, it gave him something to look at and wake up more, rather than going back to sleep on his own like he has for the past week. You're stuck with the nighttime infrared though, faint red circles surrounding the camera lens. But its faint enough to probably not bother him too much.
All in all, I am VERY glad I went with this product, and its so so nice to finally be able to see what he's doing! He's 5 months old and just now starting to put himself to sleep, so its really helpful to see what he's doing. I used to think he fell asleep faster, but now I'm realizing he's spending a little more time playing with his feet :)
