Not compatible with Windows 7don't waste your money - the company does not update the software or drivers for this product for Windows 7. Now all computers come with Win 7, and you won't be able to use this scanner. Shame on NeatReceipts that does not say any of this on their website, nor has any reference to this product
Neat Business Card ScannerThis is a handy device for scanning business cards and creating contacts. The product came from J&R Music and Computer World. The scanner arrived in a timely fashion however, was missing the software disk. J&R customer service was absolutely useless, After several calls, they promised to obtain the software and send to me. I am still waiting. Support from the MFG is only available thru email. While time consuming, they finally got me software and I was able to install. Because I do not have the original disk with a keycode, I am not able to take advantage of any software upgrades on the web.
The scanner and software are easy to use and the OCR function is very good. A great device to keep your business cards organized
Scanner used for ACT! and Outlook - This does work!!!!I took a bit of a gamble on this device hoping that it would work with my ACT! 2008 version 10. The instruction and all the web site info I could find only indicated that it worked with ACT! 2007. Well I assure you that it works with ACT! 2008 version 10. I did have to learn a few of the quarks when installing the software which I will disclose in a moment. The product functions as advertised, a bit better on the scanning resolution then I was expecting. Set up was a bit difficult and I did not try to call tech support. Like to do it myself - such a guy thing.
Pleas follow the install instructions carefully. They are not complicated but one of the most important steps is NOT to plug in the scanner before the software is loaded. You will have problems. Also, when trying to calibrate the scanner, use the back of a large business card. The calibration card that comes included for some reason just does not set up correctly. Don't know why. It is nothing more then an oversized business card that is white on both sides. (BLANK) The scanner has to look at a pure white background to become configured. Once set up it works great and the accuracy improves. About accuracy, only about 90% correct. You will have to either rescan a few times to get it right or just do a quick edit here and there. No bid deal at at this price its a bargin.
When installing the software you will be asked if you want to install the ACT and/or Outlook interface hook. You have to select both or ACT will not get the hook. Don't know why just know that I had to play with this thing and work thru every possible combination to finaly get ACT to recognize that the NEAT scannner interface was loaded. Make sure everything is shut down, if you have ACT open it will look like it installed but it will not work. The instruction said to have all virus scan shut down as well. I could not shut down my corporate virus scan so I had to install with it active. It worked fine with it on.
The scanning into ACT works pretty good, not as full featured as when you are using the actual NEAT database engin that is loaded with the software. But it gets the job done. Puts a jpeg file under attached documents for the contact and you get all the necessary infor (Contact Name, Address, All phone #s, Email, Web page, Title) I did find that the resolution of the scan into ACT was not nearly as good as the scan into the NEAT software. I think the unit is not scanning at 600dpi into ACT like it does into the NEAT software. It's acceptable.
Overall I give this unit a thums up for a inexpensive solution that will allow an ACT user to get a pretty good amount of business contacts into the database with not so much hassle. Took me about 1hr to do 40 contacts. You will need about a minute each if you are really in a rythm and have a fast machine. (Mine is not)

Not for Windows 7 - never will beI didn't actually get to use this as it is not compatible with Windows 7. This was not stated up front and upon calling the manufacturer I learned that they did not plan on an update to work with W7 or future support of the product itself. So it cost me shipping (twice) and a restocking fee for a device that never performed once.
