This thing works!I use this in my home theater setup, using the receiver as the master component. All other components except the TV are plugged into the switched outlets, including the BluRay player. The switched outlet speeds up the player's boot time because I can set the player to quick-start mode, but still save energy when the system is off.
The smart strip uses no power when it's off, but needs about a watt of power when it's on. Highly recommended.
Works perfect right out of the box. Simple as that.Works perfect right out of the box. Simple as that. I bought two. One is on my computer system and the other is on my TV stereo. Common since says that I will eventually save some money on energy cost. I have cable and elected to turn off my cable box also. When I turn on the TV I have to wait a couple minutes for the guide program info to come on but no big deal.
Not-so-smart power stripAlthough smarter than the average power strip, this device has only limited intelligence. The instruction manual, page 5, states "The Smart Strip will work with the following equipment: * All home entertainment equipment ... ". Not exactly. The adjustable switching threshold doesn't work with devices having small differences between the "on" and "standby" states. This includes lots of my home entertainment equipment. My application is a Logitech Squeezebox receiver as control device, and a ZERO class D amplifier as switched device. The Logitech receiver doesn't effectively switch the power strip, no matter how finely I tune the threshold adjusting switch. Neither will my Pioneer receiver trigger the switch. A lamp works - but not practical.
Switching devices triggered by audio signals are built into some self-powered speakers and amplifiers, and I do have these deployed elsewhere. But finding a standalone switching device for my ZERO amp is not that easy, although there are schematics freely available on the web if you're a DIY type.
Another option was to leave the amp on 24/7, since it is low power. But, there are sufficient electromagnetic fields present to generate noise in the speakers.
Well, the 60's style toggle switch on the amp does work well.
I have 4 of these and they all work greatThese power strips are wonderful - I have them on all my computers plus 2 seperate entertainment centers - what an easy way to save electricity without any extra effort - I have the entertainment center ones set so that when I turn off the tv it also turns off the stereo and game consoles attached to that tv - I put the dvr's on the constant on plug. On the pc's I have it set to cut power to monitors and speakers when the pc shuts down. All work great and were super easy to adjust sensitivity. Sometimes being "green" can be easy!
Smart stripSmart strip is a smart idea. No more phantom stealing of power. When you power down the tv which is the main
component of this setup, everything powers off as well including my strip lights and all the peripherals. I'm very happy with this purchase, I'm going to buy more for my other setups. Great price on Amazon with free shipping.
