Very Addictive SpeedliteBought one of these about 3 years ago when my wife and I had just upgraded from point and click into DSLR photography. Big mistake! Wife is now getting very serious about her photography and has started to shoot weddings. So, we had to add some strobes. Have tried a non-Canon (Sigma), the 430EX II and a little 420EX to light backgrounds with. Both the Sigma and the 430EX left us wanting for the 580EX II. So we got rid of them both and just ordered another 580EX II from Amazon. Expect it any day now. In a while we will get the 3rd 580 EX II. This strobe will spoil you.
You could need a bracket for your flashI bought the Canon Speedlight 580EX II flash to use with my new Canon 50D camera with a Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens, but nobody told me that this lens is too large and the light of the flash don't reach the subject without a bracket. But with the bracket you also need a cord to connect the flash to the camera (in my case, a Canon OC-E3 or equivalent). So I wanted to share this information to help other people that are planning to get a similar equipment.
After you buy your new Canon EOS, this is the next thing you need!It seems nearly crazy to spend $400 for a flash - but after you learn about this, it takes your flash pictures to a whole new level. Bounce flash with TTL, just amazing. Add a Gary Fong Lightsphere to the flash and you will have near studio quality photos that is portable. This is a powerful flash that you won't regret owning. Built solid - it will last for years. If you are serious about your photography, the Speedlite 580EX is a no-brainer. It is an amazing flash. Has a built-in remote too.
580 canon flashanother great flash by canon, needed a master flash for my other canon speed lite collection and this was obviously the next step. if you need only flash and didn't want to spend the money spend the money this is only a couple of hudnred or so more than 400 series, you will end up getting this if you plan on doing any type of studio, photoshoot or project. company was fast and reliable and no issues on shipping.
Fantastic indoor flashThis is a must have flash for indoor use. It's a reasonable cost for what results in much improved quality pictures. It makes the quality of the lighting much softer rather than the harsh often overlit results from a regular flash. People in your pics end up looking more natural and complimentary than having a hard flash that often makes them their complexions looks shiny and show the smallest flaws. We have tried pics side by side with the flash that came with the SD50 and this flash and it really is night and day. Highly recommend you purchase this!
