best chew toy I've foundThis is the best chew toy I've found. Have a lab who LOVES to go through standard toys/bones quickly and easily, many times resulting in sharp and dangerous points that can choke or otherwise hurt her. No problems with the Kong though. No punctures or anything of that nature. From everything I've seen, this toy is indestructible.
If you're looking for something to throw to your dog, this may or may not work for you. On that use, it doesn't work for me. Too firm/heavy. For a chewer, it's great though.
Great Product for the Price!What a wonderful product...This toy is a great one, for that special dog in your life...Fill it with Peanut Butter, or Kong's variety of treats.
While this toy will keep your dog entertained for a bit, it still strongly advised assuming regular exercise and quality time with your pet. This toy simply serves as a mental challenge and short-term "baby-sitter" for your pet, and does not give them the proper exercise.
It is very durable, but if you have a "power-chewer" it is recommended you purchase the Black kong toy, as it's a lot more stronger and durable. It's always a good idea to have more than one available for your pet. Simply, fill, freeze, and give to your pet. Wedge it in the fence, if your pet is in a cage and it presents a bigger challenge thus keeping them occupied and not barking.
It is also recommended that you purchase the right size for your pet. I have a 8 month old GSD, and he currently used the large, however, I think he'd be a little happier with a size bigger for maximum treat capacity. Please check out Kong's size chart for an idea about what size you need... [...]
Amazon is a great place to purchase these toys from, if buying more than just the one toy. I purchased the Classic Red, the Black, and the squirrel toy and am really happy I did.
Border Collie/German Shepard destructionMy dog loved the Kong toy a little too much, and ended up ripping it to pieces. I always thought the kong toys were so durable, but apparently not for my puppy Border Collie/German Shep. she chewed right through it. Never leave them alone with the toy, and do not allow them to chew on it like a bone.
Lasted 30 minutes.After searching the shelves for a strong dog toy, I came across this KONG with a picture of a cute Lab on it. I bought the Kong for my 1yr old Lab who instinctively loves to chew. After about 30 minutes she managed to chew off the smaller end into tiny chunks of rubber just big enough for my son to choke on.
I think I'll try a crowbar for the next dog toy.
Not what I expected...My 10 year old Weimaraner has recently been diagnosed with Mast Cell Tumors, he has undergone surgery twice and luckily all have been Grade 1 (least likely to be malignant). My vet wanted to start him on Prednisone and Tagament in an effort to keep additional tumors from forming. The Prednisone has caused some loss of muscle mass on the top of his head and around the jaw line. I was hoping this toy would encourage him to exercise those muscles, but his quickly looses interest in it (even when it is stuffed full of treats). He gets out what he can, but he couldn't have done much to this toy when he was younger. It is very tough, I'll give it that, in fact I believe it is too strong. Once the treats are in it, it is almost impossible to get them out unless you can manage to squeeze the toy together, which was what I was hoping he could do.
Perhaps I expected too much.
