POS

This is the worst POS we have owned. I actually want to film a video of me smashing it in the adjacent field. It is messy, hard to maintain in a clean fashion, dirty, and downright no good. You spend more time on maintenance of the darn thing than you would just to have a normal cat box and scoop it out every day. I'd rather spend 1 minute a day scooping than 15 minutes handling poop soiled parts every two days. WORST PURCHASE I HAVE EVER MADE. If I get the video shot of it, I will post.

Nothing but Junk Junk Junk

We've tried using these for 7 years now. The initial models we had lasted about 2 years before the motor gave out, which we accepted for the convenience it offered. However, over the past 3 years or so every one of these we purchased lasted no more than a year (only 1 lasted that long), and several much less (two were defective upon arrival). There had to be a change in ownership or factory location, or people on the assembly line because these later versions are just what the title says: Junk Junk Junk. We are going to try the more expensive Litter Robot II to see if it works as promised. Most reviews have been positive, though some have not. Let's face it, getting a machine that really works seems to be about as effective as getting your teenager to scoop out the pan.

If you insist on purchasing the LitterMaid Model, I suggest you use Amazon (where it is sold for $105, instead of one of the pet specialty stores. In our neck of the woods, the specialty store is charging over $250 for the same piece of crapola.

GREAT PRODUCT

THIS IS THE ONLY MODEL LM 900 I ORDER. I HAVE TRIED OTHERS MUCH TO MY DISAPPOINTMENT.
BE VERY CAREFULL NOT TO GET A WIRE RAKE IT BREAKS UP THE CLUMPED LITTER INTO A MESS.
THIS MODEL HAS A PLASTIC RAKE, IT DOES A GREAT JOB. MY LAST ONE LASTED 3 YEARS WITH TWO CATS
KEEPING IT QUITE BUSY

There's got to be something better !

Had about 6 of these in the last 3 years, apparently they are made to self destruct in about 6-9 months. Unfortunately when they work right they are better than the alternative so I keep replacing them in hopes that one day they will get it right. They are getting better, the last one I bough just died after about a year the only reason I gave it 2 stars.

Nothing like the original!

The original littermaid box had much better reviews than the "new & improved" model. I had the basic model for about 4years before the timer was off (it would trigger the rake to clean too soon and the litter hadn't fully hardened yet, thus making a smelly mess of urine clumps). My cat is happy and no longer thinks the dining room is his litter box. Hopefully this box will last longer than 4yrs but even if it doesn't, it's still a worthwhile investment. Littermaid, please keep this original litter box available for purchase. After some digging, I'm glad I was able to find it.

Product Description

LitterMaid LM900 self-cleaning cat litter box works best with premium clay based cat litter. Your cat must be in front of the sensor for 5 seconds then it will automatically cycle 10 minutes after your cat leaves the litter box, raking the waste into a disposable container, where it and odors are sealed away.

Amazon.com Review

Ideal for a household with a large cat or more than one cat, this big, self-cleaning litter box eliminates most odors while keeping the litter pleasingly fresh for tabby. It's ingenious in design: a cat entering the box triggers a sensor; the sensor sets a timer that counts off 10 minutes; then a rake runs through the litter, scooping out clumps and depositing them in a plastic container at the box's end; the container is automatically sealed until the next cat visit, when the raking cycle opens the container for another deposit. (Twelve reusable, disposable containers are included, each 13 inches long, 4 inches wide, and 3-1/2 inches deep.) The litter box can be plugged into a wall socket (AC adapter included) or operated on eight D-cell batteries (not included). It comes with a durable carpeted ramp that leads a cat into the box and cleans its paws on the way out. For safety, the rake stops and reverses at the slightest touch if an object gets in the way. If a cat re-enters the box before the initial 10 minutes have elapsed, the timer automatically resets. The litter box is made of hard plastic and measures 29 inches long, 8-7/8 inches high, and 16-3/4 inches wide. For proper operation, it requires premium, clumping litter but does not need as much as a nonautomated litter box of the same size. For cleaning, the litter tray can be detached. Instructions for acclimating a cat to the box are included. --Fred Brack
